Analysis and mitigation of noise in simultaneous transmission and reception in MRI

Purpose In simultaneous transmission and reception (STAR) MRI, along with the coupling of excitation pulse to received signal, noise, undesired distortions (spurs) coming from transmit chain also leak into acquired signal degrade image quality. Here, properties this coupled noise its relationship amplifier gain, density, isolation performance, imaging bandwidth are analyzed. It is demonstrated that by utilizing a recently proposed STAR technique, can be reduced. The importance achieving high careful selection corresponding parameters demonstrated. Theory Methods A cancellation algorithm, together vector modulator, used for transmit-receive isolation. scanner modeled as pipeline blocks demonstrate contribution each block. With higher isolation, reduced point dominant source becomes acquisition in case pulsed MRI. Amplifiers different gain experiments verify derived noise-transmit parameter relation. Results more than 80 dB analog domain achieved. leakage spurs chain, shown plays most critical role determining sufficient whereas figure does not contribute much. Conclusion analyzed mitigated using modulator.
